Quick Start
Optimize your first image with SmallPict in under a minute.
Your First Optimized Image
After completing the Installation, SmallPict is ready to work.
Step 1: Upload an image
Go to Media → Add New and upload any image (JPEG, PNG, or GIF).
Step 2: Automatic processing
If Automatic Optimization is enabled (it is by default), SmallPict will:
- Send the image to the SmallPict API over HTTPS
- Compress it with lossy compression at quality 80
- Convert it to WebP
- Replace the original with the optimized version
- Update all WordPress thumbnail sizes
On Free and Starter, SmallPict keeps no copy of the original: the upload is held in temporary encrypted storage only while it is processed and is deleted within 24 hours. If you want to keep originals, back them up before uploading.
On Starter you can choose AVIF instead of WebP. On Pro and Business, Smart Next-Gen creates AVIF and WebP versions and keeps the original on your server as a fallback. Turn on Cloud Offload to keep originals in SmallPict's encrypted cloud storage and serve images from the SmallPict CDN. Leave it off and everything stays on your WordPress server.
Step 3: Check the results
Go to Media → Library and click on the image. You'll see:
- Original size vs optimized size
- Savings percentage
- Output format (WebP)
Step 4: Monitor your quota
Visit the SmallPict menu in your WordPress admin sidebar. The sidebar shows:
- Monthly quota usage as a progress bar
- Used / Remaining / Limit in MB
- Current plan tier
