Planned
Akamai integration
Bring-your-own-CDN support for Akamai is planned. It doesn't work yet. Akamai is one of the largest and longest-running CDNs, used by many large organisations.

What the integration will do
This is the plan. Details may change before release.
You'll connect your own Akamai property in front of your storage.
smallPict will write optimized AVIF and WebP files to your storage, and Akamai will serve them from your own account and domain.
When an image is re-optimized, smallPict will purge the matching Akamai cache so visitors get the new file.
Your Akamai account, rules and bill stay yours. smallPict won't be involved with the CDN's performance.
Who it's for
- Teams that already deliver images through Akamai and want to keep it.
- Apps on Velocity or Momentum that want optimized images in their own storage and CDN.
- Anyone who would otherwise have to switch providers just to use smallPict.
Supported today
If you need your own storage and CDN now, these already work.
Questions
When will it be ready?
We'll email everyone on the request list when it's ready; requests help us prioritise.
Can I use Akamai with smallPict today?
Not through a built-in integration yet. Today, your own storage can be Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Google Cloud Storage or another S3-compatible service, and your own CDN can be Cloudflare or Amazon CloudFront. Your own storage and CDN are always connected together.
Which plans will include it?
Velocity and Momentum, the API plans that offer your own storage and CDN. WordPress plans use the managed smallPict CDN.
What should I put in my request?
Your website or app, monthly image bandwidth, where your images are stored, and your timeline.
