Connect any S3-compatible storage
Many storage services speak the S3 API, such as Hetzner Object Storage, Vultr Object Storage, Wasabi and Backblaze B2 (through its S3 API), and you can connect them with a custom endpoint. We don't test every service, so check that yours supports standard S3 object reads and writes. Available today on the Velocity and Momentum API plans.

What you need to connect it
You enter these in the dashboard when you switch to your own storage and CDN. The keys only need to read and write objects in one bucket.
- Option in the dashboard
- Choose Custom S3-compatible and enter the endpoint
- Endpoint
https://s3.your-provider.com(example)- Bucket
- An existing bucket that smallPict writes the optimized files to
- Region
auto(or the region your provider names)- Access keys
- An access key and secret that can write and read objects (PutObject, GetObject)
- Path-style addressing
- Supported: turn it on if your service needs it
- Network
- The endpoint must be reachable from the internet over HTTPS, with a valid certificate
Storage and CDN are connected together
Bringing your own is one setting: you connect your own storage and your own CDN together, and one can't be turned on without the other. Pair your S3-compatible storage with Cloudflare or Amazon CloudFront as your CDN.
With your own storage and CDN, the files live in your own accounts, outside smallPict. You're responsible for those copies; smallPict doesn't keep a backup of them and isn't involved with the CDN's performance.
CDNs you can pair it with today
Not ready to run your own? “Managed by smallPict” is the default on Velocity and Momentum: we store and deliver the files for you. WordPress plans always use the managed smallPict CDN.
Questions
Which plans can use it?
Velocity and Momentum, the API plans. WordPress plans, including Business, use the managed smallPict CDN and can't connect their own storage.
Can I connect only my storage and keep the smallPict CDN?
No. Your own storage and your own CDN are switched on together. If you'd rather not run a CDN, keep “Managed by smallPict”.
Do the keys need admin rights?
No. They only need to read and write objects in the bucket you connect, and you can revoke or rotate them at any time in your storage account.
Does smallPict keep a copy of my files?
No. Images are processed in temporary, encrypted processing storage, and the optimized files are written to your bucket. smallPict doesn't keep a backup of the files in your account.
Use your own storage and CDN
