BYO-Storage & BYO-CDN

Production-Ready BYO-Storage (S3) & BYO-CDN (CloudFront) Integration

Connect your existing Amazon S3 buckets and CloudFront distributions directly with SmallPict. Transform images at the edge, store optimized AVIF/WebP assets into S3, and deliver them globally through CloudFront with 0% vendor lock-in.

Integration Primer

Amazon Web Services (AWS) + Cloud CDN Integration

How your cloud storage origin, SmallPict's ephemeral optimization engine, and the global edge delivery network work in perfect harmony.

1. Dedicated Storage Origin

Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) is an industry-standard cloud object storage service providing eleven nines of data durability, fine-grained access control, and infinite elastic scalability.

2. SmallPict Ephemeral Engine

SmallPict is a next-generation media optimization platform that seamlessly intercepts image uploads, converts them into modern AVIF and WebP formats in ephemeral memory buffers, strips redundant EXIF metadata, resizes dimensions, and pushes optimized files straight to your cloud storage bucket.

3. Global Edge CDN Delivery

Amazon CloudFront is a globally distributed content delivery network with hundreds of edge locations, providing origin shielding, TLS termination, and ultra-fast edge caching for S3 assets.

Security & Data Governance

Security, Privacy & Access Control

Zero-Storage Retention Model
Does SmallPict keep or store copies of my files?

No. SmallPict operates on a strict ephemeral in-memory processing architecture. Assets are compressed in isolated volatile RAM buffers and immediately streamed directly to your designated Amazon S3 bucket. SmallPict NEVER stores, retains, or maintains copies of your original or processed images on its servers.

Least-Privilege IAM

SmallPict requires only bucket-scoped read and write permissions (e.g. PutObject / GetObject). We never request or require administrative, project-wide, or account-wide credentials.

Private Bucket Support

Your Amazon S3 buckets do NOT need to be public. SmallPict writes directly using authenticated API calls, and asset delivery is routed securely via CDN Origin Access Control or signed origins.

AES-256 Encryption

All API tokens and credentials stored in SmallPict are encrypted at rest using AES-256 GCM envelope encryption and never logged in plaintext.

Customer Sovereignty

You retain 100% data ownership and sovereignty. You can revoke credentials or rotate keys at any time directly in your Amazon Web Services (AWS) console.

Technical FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear technical answers regarding Amazon Web Services (AWS) storage integration, CDN cache headers, security policies, and performance.

1What is Amazon S3 + Amazon CloudFront Integration?
Amazon S3 acts as your durable, persistent object repository while Amazon CloudFront serves cached copies from edge points of presence closest to your viewers. SmallPict acts as the high-speed optimization layer in between, automatically compressing images before storage and edge delivery.
2Can SmallPict optimize images stored in Amazon S3?
Yes. SmallPict connects directly to your Amazon S3 buckets. It compresses JPEG, PNG, and WebP assets, converts them into next-generation AVIF and WebP formats, and stores the optimized files directly inside your bucket.
3Does SmallPict work with Amazon CloudFront?
Yes. When SmallPict streams optimized images to Amazon S3, it attaches optimal HTTP caching headers (Cache-Control: public, max-age=31536000, immutable). Amazon CloudFront caches these assets at the edge, serving requests with sub-25ms response times.
4Can I use a private Amazon S3 bucket?
Absolutely. SmallPict does NOT require your bucket to be public. SmallPict writes directly using authenticated API calls, and public delivery is handled securely via CDN Origin Access Control or private origin configurations.
5Does SmallPict require Amazon Web Services (AWS) administrative credentials?
No. SmallPict operates on least-privilege principles and only requires credentials (AWS Access Key ID & Secret / IAM Role) with scoped permissions strictly restricted to reading and writing objects within your specific target bucket.
6Can I use a multi-region Amazon S3 bucket?
Yes. SmallPict fully supports multi-region, dual-region, and regional bucket configurations. SmallPict will push optimized assets to whichever endpoint you configure in your SmallPict dashboard.
7Does SmallPict alter or overwrite my original images?
By default, SmallPict generates modern optimized formats (.avif and .webp) alongside your original master files, preserving your original images untouched unless you explicitly configure in-place replacement.
8Where are optimized images stored?
All optimized images are stored directly in your own Amazon S3 bucket. SmallPict adheres to a 100% Bring-Your-Own-Storage (BYO) model with zero permanent data retention on SmallPict servers.
9Does SmallPict support WebP and AVIF formats?
Yes. SmallPict natively encodes both AVIF (up to 88% smaller than JPEG) and WebP (up to 75% smaller). When delivered through Amazon CloudFront, assets are served dynamically according to the visitor's browser support.
10How does caching work after image optimization?
SmallPict injects Cache-Control: public, max-age=31536000, immutable headers into every stored asset. This informs Amazon CloudFront edge nodes and client browsers to cache the image for up to one year, maximizing cache hit ratios (>99%) and virtually eliminating origin transfer fees.

Zero Egress Shock, Full Infrastructure Control

Deploy SmallPict with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Keep your media assets inside your own cloud account while enjoying automated AVIF/WebP encoding and enterprise edge acceleration.
